When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year old beast is an equally terrifying creature who’s fallen “madly” in love with her.
Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety—a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive a tunneling earworm, extract a carnivorous splinter, evade the campus poltergeists, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn’t decide to kill her himself.

Book Trailer:

Eerie Preface
Nowhere to Hide
Judge of your natural character by what you do in your dreams.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hailey plunked her head on the desk and groaned. Why, why…why couldn’t she just tell Asher that she wanted out, that she was afraid—afraid of the others, afraid of dying, and even afraid of…of him. After all, he was planning to kill her. Only temporarily, but still.
She couldn’t believe she was even considering it, but she had no choice. If Asher didn’t kill her, one of the others would.
Permanently.
And Asher protected her. He cared about her. He loved her, right? Asher—an emotionless creature. Hailey wasn’t sure if he was even capable of love.
Oh, this made absolutely no sense. Kill her to save her? Was that love?
Freshman year at her dream college was turning into nightmare, and as she rolled her forehead on the desk, the library’s impossibly large ceiling clock echoed a thump with her heart. She simply had to pull on her big girl pants and tell Asher she was done.
That’s all.
She squeezed her eyes shut as a swarm of butterflies took flight in her stomach.
Lately, she felt an awful lot like Jekyll and Hyde: logical, rational ParaScience student by day—emotional monstrosity at night. Come to think of it, this was more like The Phantom of the Opera, and she was the naïve student who didn’t realize the secret and strange angel she’d come to know was actually a homicidal maniac…
I’m not a maniac.”
Hailey jumped up. She didn’t mean to say that out loud.
Asher slid behind her, putting his lips next to her ear. “But I suppose I am homicidal,” he whispered, his breath on her skin sending goose bumps down her arms and legs.
She leaned into him and sighed.
So much for steadfast resolve.
Wrapping his arms around her waist, he pulled her closer.
How did you know I was here?” she whispered.
You were dreaming, Hailey,” he murmured. “I’ll always find you when you’re dreaming.”

Date of Publication: 11/18/15
ISBN: 9781509204441
Number of pages: 140
Word Count: 34,775
Cover Artist: Kim Mendoza

Book Description:
A global pandemic has killed most of the world’s population. Alone, Monarch Winslow struggles to survive. An empty house, gas station food and the hope of reaching a refugee camp in Austin, Texas keep her alive. Then one night an injured man breaks into her house. A dangerously sexy man.
Monarch is wary but intrigued. Corbin claims he’s a mechanic and she can’t reach the camp without a working car. She needs his help. But he needs hers, too. As the days pass, they work together and a tenuous relationship turns to turbulent desire. But Corbin refuses to discuss his past and his secrets lie between them. Falling for a man she knows nothing about could endanger her life, as well as her heart.
Meantime, a hundred miles away, is safety, perhaps even surviving family. She hopes. But Monarch is no more sure of that than she is of Corbin...?

Excerpt:
What the hell do you think? You can’t treat the wound through my jeans.”
Feeling like a complete idiot, Monarch just stood there. He was right of course, it just hadn’t occurred to her. Last night she accessed the wound easily through the rip in his jumpsuit. Tonight he was wearing clothes and would have to strip down in order for her to see it. Her mouth went dry as she watched him pull his jeans down over his hips. “Well…of-of course I knew that. I just thought you might be a bit more modest about it. I mean you could lay down under a blanket and just stick your leg out or something. I don’t want to see—”
His jeans fell to his ankles. “I’m wearing boxer shorts for Christ’s sake. What are you, a nun?”
Monarch stared at his bare legs. They were thick and muscular and covered with crisp light hair. His boxers covered everything important. But it was just…it was just so intimate. Personal. They were alone, a man and a woman, and he was in his underwear.
He lay down on the couch and lifted the leg of the boxers so that the entire wound was accessible. Monarch knelt in front of him, seeing that the bandages were lightly stained with blood. She undid the bandages as delicately as possible, trying not to pull hair or skin. Her fingers shook badly and she cursed herself.
Corbin reached over and gripped one of her hands with his own, startling her. “You don’t need to be nervous. If I was gonna attack you don’t you think I would have by now?”
Monarch blanched. Of course he would bring up the elephant in the room, mannerless oaf that he was. “Why would I know that? I know absolutely nothing about you or what you are capable of. I know I don’t trust strangers.”
Especially strangers who are convicts, huh?” Corbin said softly, and for a moment Monarch thought she detected hurt in his voice. But then his tone shifted, becoming aggressive, raspy. “I might as well be a caveman or an ape, is that it? A male with no scruples or impulse control. One who acts on his basest sexual urges whenever he feels like it, right?”

Review - The Ghosts of Kingston Cottage by Libby Bishop

Ghosts of Kingston Cottage
Revenant Investigations
Book One
Libby Bishop
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Mystery
Publisher: Evernight Publishing
Date of Publication: November 13, 2015
ASIN: B017Y1ZD72
Number of pages: 85
Word Count: 25,335
Cover Artist: Jay Aheer

Book Description:
Medium and paranormal investigator Arabella Pierce is sent with her crew to Kingston Cottage, a haunted Maine seafarer’s cottage on an isolated island. For this investigation, her boss has stuck them with skeptical reporter Lucas Brown. Though he’s hot as they come, Arabella can’t trust a man whose sole job is to discredit her and the work she does. Not after what happened with the last few skeptics…
All Lucas may want is the truth, but that doesn't change her feelings towards him. And when the ghosts appear, she and Lucas must work together—in tight quarters—to convince the resident ghosts to move on before a storm strands the entire crew on the island. Can Arabella put aside her prejudices long enough to see what the ghosts are trying to tell her? And if she does, will she and Lucas have a shot at a lifetime?

Book Trailer:

My Review:
Arabella works for Reverent Investigations. She is a medium. Her latest job takes her and her small team to Kingston Cottage. It’s a local private home that has been rumored to be haunted for decades. Arabella is thrilled to have the chance to experience Kingston Cottage herself. But there is a dark cloud on this job. A skeptic reporter is tagging along to write about Arabella and her team. She knows she can’t be debunked, she’s the real deal, but she’s still not happy about this gorgeous reporter’s presence.
I loved this story of the beautiful medium. She has trust issues with men, but rightly so. She’s been burned before and she’s finding it hard to believe Lucas’ intentions. The love story  and the story of the ghosts’ own tragic ending are both beautiful and heartwarming. This was a quick fun read and I’m excitedly waiting for the next in this series! I give The Ghosts of Kingston Cottage 4 stars!

Excerpt:
And what investigation are we doing? You didn’t say.”
Kingston Cottage.”
Arabella stared at him, shocked. “Are you serious?”
He nodded. “The owners contacted me last week, and informed me they need to sell the house as soon as possible. They want to put it on the market this month, due to personal reasons. In order to do that, they need to know what’s inside … and how to get rid of it.”
No one has ever been allowed to investigate it…” she trailed off in awe.
Folger smiled. “Until now.”
She couldn’t help but return his smile. The feeling of a fresh, no-one-else-has-done-it kind of hunt was too much of a thrill to pass up. Historic Kingston Cottage was located on a small island, all by itself, and had been rumored to be haunted since before Arabella was born. She had seen pictures and taken boat rides past the island, but she’d never set foot on the private property.
When do we have to be at the docks?” she inquired as she stood, grabbing her coat off the back of the chair.
Seven o’clock tomorrow morning. Don’t be late. Dustin is taking you over. But, Arabella—” She looked at him, knowing that tone. “It’s just going to be you, the reporter, Nick, and Lena. I need the rest of the crew on a different hunt.”
She paused at the door. Nick was one of their tech guys, and Lena was a lead investigator, like Arabella. Five more investigators rounded off the team. But the more she thought about Folger’s decision to use a small crew, the more it made sense, especially within the limited space of the cottage. “Nick and Lena,” she began, “do they know about the … ‘reporter’?”
Folger rolled his eyes, clearly hearing the quotation marks in her tone.
Yes. I asked them not to speak of it until I talked to you myself. I think that was best, don’t you?”
Arabella chose to ignore the rolling eyes. “And the reporter?”
He’ll be there at seven sharp as well. His name’s Lucas Brown, and he’s a serious reporter.”
She nodded slowly, not really believing him. “I’ll check in when we get there.”
Please do, and be sure to pack extra clothes. You know how storms brew up suddenly here. I don’t want you all stranded without necessities. The owners left you some food. Expect to be on the island at least three days, maybe four. Oh, and there’s also a generator in the basement if you lose power.”
Good to know, and it was nice of them to leave some food.”
Yes. They’re good people.”
She found it a bit strange that the crew wasn’t going to meet the owners before the investigation, and stranger still that she had never met them. Noble was a small town along the central Maine coast—it was pretty rare not to put a name to a face.
Oh, and Arabella,” Folger called as she left his office. “Try not to push him into the bay.”

She’s anxious, but she might also be right. I do hope it’s not the end of the world. What do I know about this kind of stuff? I’m not sure what else to think. The world hasn’t exactly been in the best shape recently.
The long extinct volcanoes of our island home, as well as other parts of the world, still show signs of erupting at any moment. Earthquakes are a daily occurrence. The sun has almost completely vanished, leaving the world in a state of constant twilight. Fire has been falling from the sky off and on here for the last few weeks; meanwhile, other parts of the world seem to be in the middle of a miniature ice age, and the bodies of water that aren’t frozen have steam rising from their surface.
I would hardly call any of this normal.

Excerpt:
This movie isn’t so bad. In fact, I can’t help thinking how real these scenes look. The special effects are spectacular. I feel like I am in the movie. I feel like I am walking along a dark trail. There’s no moon, which makes it incredibly difficult to see. Shadow figures begin to stalk from side-to-side. A gang of dark figures emerges out of the darkness. I can’t tell how many there are. Dozens of pairs of demonic red eyes suddenly open and stare at me. I seem to have walked into some sort of trap.
Oh no, this isn’t part of the movie, I realize too late. The swarm of shadow creatures rushes toward me. I try to turn and run, but I can’t move. I’m paralyzed with fear. What is happening to me? Wait, this must be a dream. I just need to wake up. The feeling of paralysis increases my anxiety. The more I struggle, the harder it is to move. You’re alright, I hear Ash’s voice say in my head.
Whew, thank goodness; I thought I was going crazy. Ash is on a run. I must have fallen asleep during the movie, so I am seeing this play out through her eyes. In the vision, I see that Ash is laughing, but I can’t hear her laughing. I take that as my cue to check out. Everything goes black for a moment, and then I open my eyes.
I’m looking at the ceiling of my house. I notice I am sweating profusely. I may not be in the middle of the fight, but the feeling of fear is completely real. I try to shake it off. In the safety of my home I have nothing to worry about, I try to remind myself. Yet, I can’t seem to shake the feeling of someone watching me. I’m afraid to sit up. This is ridiculous. You’ve fought demons of all sorts, died a few times, and have always come out on top. Surely you can deal with your childhood fears of the boogeyman.
I slowly sit up on the couch. The television isn’t even on. I wonder when I fell asleep. I hope it wasn’t during the movie. I try to rub the sleepiness out of my eyes. When I open them again, I am startled to see the image of a dark figure standing ominously behind me. I jump up from my seat, turn, and instinctively throw the first thing within reach at the figure, which Christian Brownhappens to be a box of sour gummy candies.

Slumber Not all princesses get their happily ever after… They tell me I killed my boyfriend Phillip in cold blood. I stabbed him twenty one times. I’m only seventeen years old, and I am serving life in Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane. I don’t remember killing him, so it’s really hard to believe I’m capable of murder. In fact I don’t remember anything before I came to Spindle Ridge, not even my boyfriend. I can only grasp onto my realistic dreams while the madness of the asylum threatens to pull me under.  I dream I’m a beautiful princess and there is an evil faerie named Maleficent who is bent on my destruction. The dreams are the closest thing I have to memories of my life, except they aren’t real. I’m crazy. I’m not a princess. They’re the mad illusions of an irrational teenage girl, right? They’ve assigned me a new doctor, and she says I can trust her, and that she’ll help me see the truth of who I really am. When she arrived she brought a new patient, Sawyer, who is everything Spindle Ridge isn’t: exciting, mysterious and beautiful. He promises he’s here to rescue me. Trusting either of them frightens me. Could it be possible that my dreams are more than just the imaginings of a delusional girl? Could they be truth?
