Bluffing the Devil by C.L. Foster ~ Cover Reveal!!

BLUFFING the DEVIL by CL Foster
                                    Releasing May 2013!

Bluffing Devil
Excerpt:

He slithered his way across the casino floor and instantly his predacious gaze locked onto me. In a spontaneous act of avoidance, I burrowed into the crowd a bit deeper and tunneled my way through the unsuspecting human-shields and headed toward the mock-safety of the elevators. Not that I am afraid of him, far from it, I just cannot stand cocky bastards that think they are God's gift to the game. Especially when it's obvious that the only reason he chats me up so often is he is trying to learn my strategy and make a place for himself as poker royalty. Not on my watch, chump. But wait, I am not prey in this situation! I am never going to be someone's doormat or stepping stone ever again! Resolve hit me suddenly and I pivoted on my heel quickly, nearly slamming into his eye-level chest. Man, he was fast! And tall, geez. When did he get so tall? How had I never noticed that before? Ahh yes, always sitting at a poker table and only having to deal with his consuming gazes. This was a new level of freak-out.

"Is there something I can help you with, Rey?" I said as I craned my neck to see the tower of man before me, "Or were you on a mad dash to bilk someone of their life savings or rob some unsuspecting college girl of her panties and possible virtue tonight?"

"You wound me, truffle." He drawled with his gorgeous Latin accented "r".

Seriously? What is up with everyone and their nicknames for me lately?

"I decided at the last moment to switch to this hotel so I could be away from the action over at Caesar's and as I was registering I couldn’t miss your glorious essence calling to me from the crowd."

As if I was "calling" to him? Pssh. As if!

"And I just had to come speak to you and make sure you are doing well. Are you busy? You seemed in a hurry."

Rey could fool most people into thinking he was innocent or sweet or whatever façade he wanted to wear today but I know poker players and I know men and he was not fooling me one bit. He always stayed at Caesar's, which was one of the most important reasons I never did. Had he followed me? There would be no point in that. I have to stop being so paranoid.

"I was in a hurry yes, I.. uh.. have a date." It was sort of the truth. I was planning on going to my room for a nap before the tournament and was also praying that I would have a few moments with my Dream Guy, that always settled my nerves and gave me a little something extra to smile about.

A flash of something crossed Rey's face. Amazingly, I couldn't decipher if it was anger, confusion, or some other emotion. Even though I have been training to read people's faces, actions, words, and other characteristics for years now, he somehow managed to show an emotion I hadn't seen before. Weird. Well-played, sir. Game on.

Ready for a taste? He's a peek at Sacrifice....
“No! No way! I wasn’t crazy about the dragon, but I draw the line at spiders! There has to be a no arachnids clause somewhere in our calling!”
“Oh, there’s claws all right,” I added, only half listening to her. The long, black legs of the creature stretched out toward us. We pressed our backs up against the wall behind us and began to inch our way to the door. “But I’m more concerned about the mandibles. Look at the size of those things!”
Kendall reached the door first. Her hand circled my wrist. In a blur of wind and speed she flew us out of the dressing room and down the hall where we collided with Alaina. The three of us rolled to the ground in a mass of satin, tulle, and feathers.
“Why are you still here?!” I shrieked and tried to kick myself free from Alaina’s train.
“I wanted to make sure you were oka-aahhhhh!” Alaina’s words morphed into a scream when the spider came into view. Its legs clicked across the wall as it skittered sideways straight toward us.
“Is everything okay? I heard screams.” Vicki, the plump, southern bell storeowner rounded the corner, took one look at the spider and passed out cold.
“Fan-friggin-tastic! Alaina, get her out of here!” Finally free of the mass of fabric, I jumped up and looked around for a weapon. “Where’s a giant rolled up newspaper when you need one?”
Alaina scrambled to her feet, hooked Vicki under her arms, and dragged her through the door that led to the front of the store. The spider eased its way off the wall and onto the floor. Its claws pinched and snapped at the air. Goo dripped from mandibles that chomped hungrily.
Beside me Keni gulped. “Please tell me you have a plan.”
“That depends.” Fear raised the decibel of my voice to a squeak. If that thing lunged there was a good chance I was gonna let loose a girlie scream that went completely against the superhero image. “Do you consider running a plan? ‘Cause that’s all I’ve got.”
“Absolutely!”
We both spun on our heels and sprinted for the showroom. The spider gave chase. I grabbed a rack of prom dresses and knocked it to the ground to slow down the monstrous insect. The spider hissed and easily stepped over the brightly colored pile of sequins and ruffles.
Something whizzed by my head. A zebra print pump slammed into one of the spider’s six eyes and the creature reared back in pain.
“Good thinking, Keni!” I shouted and joined her at the shoe display.
I palmed a sequined stiletto with an exceptionally pointy heel and launched it as hard as I could. It embedded in the spider’s head. The creature stumbled to the side and smashed into the glass display case of tiaras and jewelry. Glass shattered. Expensive jewelry crunched under its pedipalp.
Unfortunately, the blows injured it but neither incapacitated nor killed. The spider raised one back leg and knocked the stuck shoe free. Then it charged. Eight legs clicked across the wood floor in rapid-fire succession toward me. I whipped any object within reach at it. Shoes. Purses. Veils. Hangers. Dresses. Crinoline. Kendall joined in and together we made it rain formal wear on the giant insect. None of it slowed the big bug down at all, but it sure looked pretty.

Author Spotlight: Milly Silver author of the Into the Dark series

I have gotten the chance to know this author and she is terrific! I am excited to share with you my review of her books and an interview that she so kindly agreed to do for us!

Into the Dark
by Milly Silver

Book 1

Emily Baxter has seizures that make her black out. Naturally, her family is concerned about her health, but her health is not what Emily worries about. She worries about getting caught by the misery-makers, as she calls them. See, when Emily blacks out, she doesn't just loose consciousness for a few seconds. She travels to different worlds. Places that are dark, and damp and scary. And every one of them has the misery-makers. They are dead and hollow people that want to torture her. They want to hurt her and she must stay hidden.

Book 1 of Into the dark is very entertaining. It tells a unique story and is well written. Emily is a great character. She's made a mistake, but she is working to correct it. She's started her first year of college and has made fast friends with Pippa who is taking the same courses as Emily. And a handsome, yet seemingly unattainable stranger has caught her eye.

I like that this book is technically four novellas. That makes them quick reads. I'm looking forward to book 2.

Book 2

The story continues after Emily's night out with her new friends. She's getting into a new routine at school and for some reason she can't stop thinking about the gorgeous guy that nearly ran her down on her bike. Then when eating lunch with her friends, she blacks out in the cafe and the gorgeous guy, Henry is there to catch her. He then whisks her off to a doctor and as they spend the day together waiting on test results, their attraction to each other is undeniable. Emily begins to wonder if Henry could be the key to getting Irene back.

I must admit, in the beginning of part 2 I started to wonder where the story went. It seemed as though the story was straying form the main plot and becoming all about a love interest. But then it all come together. Henry is really part of a team that is doing neurological research. Research that sends him and his team to parallel universes while in a drug induced sleep state. This one is really good and this story just keeps getting better. I can't wait to start the third book and see where the story goes.

Book 3

Emily and Henry are very happy and beginning to think they may be in love. And back in the alternate universe there is a little girl that wants to help Emily find the person she's lost. Seb is against Henry and Emily being together, but why? How does it all fit together. Emily needs to get all the answers in time to save Irene.

Book 4

Emily is now a full team member of the G&T sect, but will her relationship with Henry work out? In a moment of abnormal neediness Emily confronts Henry about his true feelings for her. She gets the answer she fears most – he only pursued her to get her on the G&T team. Heart broken she runs to lifelong best friend, Ben. Ben gets dragged into the G&T search and rescue mission and now Emily has the added stress of having to save Irene, and keep her loved ones safe. This mission is the most important thing she has ever done and she fears she won't be able to make everything come together. Save Irene...keep everyone safe....save the mysterious little girl....work things out with Henry....can she do it all?

WOW Does this story come to an exciting end! All four books were very good reads, but book 4 is AMAZING! You will love how it all comes together and the ending will leave you wanting more. I love love love this series!

Milly Silver interview:

PT - Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

MS - I live in Cheshire in the North West of England with my family. I love dogs and have two Golden Retrievers called Abby and Anna. They sleep by my feet while I write at my kitchen table. I am passionate about storytelling, reading and writing. I also LOVE movies. You can’t beat watching a stunning movie on the big screen. Oh, and I love pink peonies. Surrounding yourself with beautiful things is one of life’s joys.

PT - What was the hardest part of writing Into the Dark??

MS - I think the hardest part of writing this story was getting through the months and months of polishing and editing. There are so many essential stages of writing a novel, and you can’t rush them, otherwise it shows. So I felt it was a stamina test to keep going through the ten beta readers reading and giving feedback on it, then through the rewrites, then me reading through the story hundreds of times to check for various elements, copy editing, then onto(what you hope is)the final read through. The thought that kept me going was “Every little tweak makes the story stronger. It will all be worth it. So keep going!”

PT - Who designed the covers?

MS - A fantastic cover designer, Cory Clubb worked on the INTO THE DARK series covers. I chose him because he has a lot of experience in book cover design from working with top ebook authors such as Aaron Patterson, and he also works with Random House. I gave him a few key elements that I wanted to achieve, and he came up with several great ideas. I knew straight away that the chosen design works to hint at the story elements of action, adventure, and paranormal romance. I think Cory’s done an excellent job!

PT - Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

MS - I love lots of different authors, depending on my mood! I enjoy J.A. Redmerski (see below), Janet Evanovich, Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead was a book that made a big impression on me. I’ve enjoyed Iain Banks’ work, and Nicholas Sparks’ and Fiona Walker’s romance novels. I loved Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong. There are too many to list! I’m pretty open to any new authors and books.

PT - What book are you reading now?

MS - I’ve just finished reading The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski. Wow! Such a well-told, emotional story. I loved it. Love the characters. Cried at the letter at the end! I thought it was very inspiring writing and J.A. Redmerski deserves every success.

PT - What inspired you to write your first book?

Ms - In 2010, I was fascinated by states of consciousness, by gifted people who are not neuro-typical, and I was reading 130 novels per year (mostly YA). So the idea of Emily’s story came out of everything swimming around my brain at that time. I was at home, just doing the usual mummy things, when bits of dialogue and scenes began to pop up. I bought myself a notebook and started jotting ideas down. Quickly, before they evaporated.

PT - How did you come up with the title Into the Dark and Hotter than Hot?

MS - I often think of my titles early on while I’m laying down the first draft. Titles come to me when I’m going about my everyday life. They reflect some key element of the story, and hint at what’s to come! I also want them to hint at the style and genre of the story. So INTO THE DARK hints at Emily’s black outs, the way she has to constantly push forward in her life despite being in the dark about what is going on, and how there’s a dark side to life.

HOTTER THAN HOT is COMPLETELY different! Lol. It’s a light, fast, feel-good read to make you laugh out loud! It’s sexy without being erotica. It’s more about the hot guy and what a great distraction it is to have that in life!

PT - Do you have a specific writing style?

MS - At this stage in my writing, I’m deliberately trying out different styles, genres and subject matter. I want to push myself and my writing to see what I can do. I’m still learning (I doubt that will ever stop!), and so that freedom is important. I wrote INTO THE DARK because I wanted to see what I could do with a YA angsty, action, adventure story with a paranormal romance thread. HOTTER THAN HOT has tested me to see what I can do with writing comedy and romance. Next, I want to write a NA romance story. Nicholas Sparks and J.A. Redmerski have inspired me!

PT - Do you have a day job as well?

MS - I’m a full time author and I love it! I rush around doing the school run and all the normal mummy things each day, then I get down to connecting with readers and writing my next story.

PT - Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

MS - Yes! INTO THE DARK’s message is that everyone has challenges in life. You have to put your big girl pants on and push on through. And in time, you grow stronger and your unique gifts emerge to help you. People come into your life when you need them, and they support you as well.

PT - Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

MS - Yes! I want to say a big ‘thank you!’ to all my readers. You are a lovely bunch of people. Everyone I’ve met has been wonderfully supportive – readers, book reviewers, bloggers, fans, FB friends, Goodreads friends, Amazon reviewers – Each and every one of you has contributed to the success of INTO THE DARK. Indie authors owe their success to faithful and proactive readers. Please take a bow! You are stars! xx

S.A. Price This is Forever ~ cover reveal

So excited about this one!

Did it get you curious? Winter is the very sexy bassist for the band 13 Shades of Red, and his book, THIS IS FOREVER will be releasing December 2013. Wanna see the cover?

Now isn’t that just sexy? From now till December if you check out some of your favorite blogs that are rocking the mini graphic on the side column, we will be giving some teasers, excerpts and interviews about the book, on the 10th of the month.
Believe me; it really is going to be a Long Hard Winter. *wink*
And now… for a sexy sneak peek at THIS IS FOREVER…
Seeing Lola after eight months was a fucking kick in the teeth. She had changed her hair, it was purple with black streaks, and she was wearing one fucker of an outfit. Platform Mary Jane’s, her signature, purple torn fishnet thigh highs with garters that ended in bows with skulls on them, micro mini in black satin with a lace trim. She had tripled up on her belts, her little baby tee molding to her torso like a second skin. It was razor cut in places, showing skin and the purple of her lace bra. Her arms warmers were knitted with little skulls on them. He was pretty sure she wasn’t wearing underwear also, the girl just loved to shock. Dare he think it was for his benefit? He wasn’t sure he even saw her, thinking he was dreaming the perfection before him.
But dreams don’t blow you off… at least his didn’t. His dreams, her especially, blew him. When dreams blew you off, those were called nightmares, and those sucked. Sucked like life was sucking right now. She had walked in with the rest of her band, greeted everyone but him, her gaze lingering a little too long on Colin, Rhys’ little brother, but then moved on as she kissed cheeks and hugged people.
He had to adjust his groin, discreetly of course, when she and Saffron hugged and snuggled. Apparently over the past several months Saffron and Lola had become quite the BFF, with Lola staying at Saffron’s place in New York when she had to go in for several shoots and meetings with her record company. Rhys had teased him about getting face timed and seeing both of them in little booty shorts and white tank tops… but he didn’t think they were that close.
And worse, he didn’t think seeing her all snuggly with Saffron would illicit the images rolling through his head. Not that Saffron wasn’t hot, but he just didn’t dig his best friend’s girl like that..  He grabbed a tootsie pop and unwrapped it, sticking the thick ball into his mouth. He watched her move from person to person, but never to him.
What. The. Fuck.
When everyone sat down, she sat at the other end, didn’t even bother to look at him. He went through dinner in a blur, his anger getting to him more and more. What the fuck was going on? He was beginning to feel like he was invisible. Maybe it was a nightmare?
When she got up and went to the bathroom, he followed, after exchanging a meaningful look with Rhys.
“So you’re just not going to say anything to me?” he said as he caught her coming out of the bathroom.
She looked at him and then sighed. “I didn’t want a public thing to happen.”
Public thing?
He cocked his head and scowled. “And what the fuck does that mean?”
She looked him up and down. “I don’t know if I’m ready to say hi like I want to.”
Winter rolled his eyes. “So you can wrap yourself around Saffron, eye Colin up like he’s a steak, which by the way he’s not even eighteen yet, eww,” he ticked off on his fingers, “Yet you can’t even just turn and wave at me?”
Lola shook her head. “It’s not what I wanted. And Colin is going to be very popular…”
“You just didn’t wanna talk to me at all?” he asked, thoroughly confused. She was the one that pushed for the tour, and by all accounts she didn’t have issue with their past. It was what gave him hope..
She moved closer and shook her head. “That’s not it.”
“Then what’s it?” he bit out, his hands clenched at his sides. Gods, only she could infuriate him like this. Fuck she smelled good. All honey and warm clover… no one smelled like Lola.
Her voice lowered. “Do you like my outfit Winter?”
He growled. Fuck yes he liked her outfit. Loved.. Wanted it crumpled on the floor of his bedroom. Wanted to peel it from her slowly, kissing every inch of skin he exposed.
She reached for him, her fingers tugging him closer by the belt loops of his jeans. “Good. You’re supposed to. You don’t get anything from me Winter Tulane. No greeting, no, little wave, no explanation. Eat your heart out baby.”
She got closer, her lips just against his, a slight almost imperceptible move of the hoop through the middle of his lip and then she was gone, back towards the party, her ass shaking with a sashay that had blood rushing from every place in his body to his cock. Fuck. What the hell was going on?
“Hey Lo,” he called after her. She gave him the finger and kept walking.
Game on. Game fucking on, he thought as he followed her back into the room. Confusion didn’t even convey how he was feeling about what happened, but holy fuck the signals she was throwing off were so convoluted he didn’t know if he should fist pump for getting her so close to him or brood over her words.

Claim Me by J Kenner Review

                    Claim Me by J. Kenner
                   Available April 23, 2013

I was lucky to get an ARC of Claim Me from netgalley to read and review.
Claim Me is the second book in this series. The story follows Damien Stark, a powerful, wealthy man who isn’t used to taking no for an answer and Nikki Fairchild, a woman who says yes on her own terms.

In this second installment, their week long agreement and game has ended. The product is amazing, but when the press gets wind of the terms of their agreement, their lives are suddenly invaded by paparazzi and story of the moment seekers. Then Nikki realizes that Damien is holding something back, and she becomes determined to find out his secret. But what will become of them if she learns the truth? Can she stand by him, or will the truth shatter everything she has come to cherish?

Kenner does not disappoint. The first book in this series was hot hot  hot and I wondered, how can the second be better? Well I assure you it is. The main characters sizzle. Their chemistry is undeniable and the heat they generate jumps off the page. There are parts that I swear made me blush.  Nikki retains her independence and remains a heroine to admire.

I have read most of Kenner’s other books (mostly paranormal) and I have to say that anything she writes is fantastic. She’s smart, funny, sexy and I am looking forward to book 3 in this series.

A young Angelina had been thrilled to participate in the sacred ritual, but through the years, her father’s untimely death and her mother’s failing health have shaken Angelina’s magical faith to its core.
