A Mate's Bite by Milly Taiden

Mission: Don’t fall in love

After an explosive night of passion during a scenting ceremony, Karla Alves is sure she was just a one night stand for the man she'd been crushing on for years. She teased him and pleased him, and Nate hasn't been around since. Her fear of becoming clingy kept her from risking her heart and asking for more than a few hours of skin sin.

Mission: Crack her walls

She. Is. His. Nathan Wolfe marked Karla. His mate. Deeply involved in pack politics, Nate has had to stay away. When his sister warns that Karla needs him more than he thinks, he'll discover a bundle of secrets only his wolf can sniff out. But getting the woman he cares about to let down her guard may prove to be his undoing.

Mission: Embrace the bite

With Karla's wayward sister wreaking havoc and friends needing more of his time than ever, Nate will have to rearrange his priorities if he ever hopes to earn Karla's trust. But will time with her be enough? Only true love and a wolf's promise can hold together a relationship created with a bite, a scenting, and a hope for tomorrow.

Tongues tangled. Breaths mingled. And the world ceased to exist. She curled her legs around his waist, crossing her ankles at the small of his back. She clung to him, letting him own her with each thrust. Her body no longer hers but his now. Owned by him.
The wild kiss turned scorching. Nothing but the feel of his tongue delving deep into her mouth at the same time he filled her with his cock. He slipped a hand between their sweaty bodies and rubbed circles over her swollen clit. She tore away from the kiss with a moan.
“Oh, God! Nate…”
He swiped his cool wet tongue over her neck, rubbing over her harsh beating pulse. “Let go, baby.”
One tap on her clit and she flew. Colors danced in a rainbow of lines and shapes behind her lids. A scream lodged in her throat as her back arched off the ground with how hard she came. Her body vibrated with each new wave of pleasure flooding her core.
Taking choppy breaths, she opened her eyes to meet his bright ones. With his cock still rock hard, he pulled out of her. In the moment it took her to gasp, she was on her stomach with him lifting her ass high in the air. She glanced over her shoulder to see him clenching his jaw.
“Stay this way, baby,” he said with his voice low, rough. “I need inside you.”
God, she needed him inside her too. Digging her nails into the grass, she leaned down and waited. He slid his hands down her back, kissed her cheeks, and a moment later pushed the head of his cock into her pussy. His thick shaft stretched her as he took her in a quick thrust.
“Oh!” She whimpered low. Tension wound into a tight ball of need in her core. He drove forth and pulled back. Each slide slickening her pussy. Each thrust tore louder moans from her throat. His fingers bit into her hips, holding her in place. Another thrust. Harder now.
“Yes! God, that feels good.”
Her words seemed to propel him into increasing his speed. All she could do was enjoy the ride. His cock rubbed her pussy walls in a friction she’d pay to feel forever. A shiver raced down her spine, sparking never used pleasure cells to life. She squeezed her pussy muscles around his cock.
He dropped to all fours behind her, not once missing a beat. His body surrounded her, cocooning her in his warmth. It was sexy and erotic. The position wasn’t new, but it was Nate with his large body covering her with his heat that tattooed the moment into her brain. Unforgettable. His strokes continued in a rapid pace that increased the sizzle in her blood with each glide. She was lost to the sensations. Lost to how close she was to flying.

Hi! I'm Milly (AKA April Angel) I love to write sexy stories. They're usually either paranormal or contemporary with a large dose of heat. My paranormal stories can be anything from wolf-shifters (my favorites) to witches, demons and anything in between. My contemporaries are usually anything from soldiers to corporate romances.
I was born the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. Currently, I live in New York City with my hubby, the bossy kiddo and our little dog "Needy Speedy". Don't ask.
When I'm not working some really long hours at the day job, or hanging out in the awful life-sucking invention known as Facebook, messaging my bestie in the UK or shopping with my sis Julie, then I can be found watching scary movies. Buuut when I'm not doing that, I'm usually writing because the voices won't shut up.
I am addicted to shoe shopping, chocolate (but who isn't, right?) and Dunkin' Donuts coffee.
Come on over and visit me! I love to meet new readers!

Part One

He was a collector.
All of his life, he always wanted to find the best things out there and make them his. It had been his mission, even from his prepubescent years.
When something sparkly, pretty, or lovely crossed his path, he was compelled to make it his.
It started with simple stones.
One would think that it was innocent enough, but it prepared him for the future ahead. The rocks were just the beginning and made him want more and more.
He would go out into the river and find the ones that nature had worn down in its current, and he would bring them home. At first his mother didn't mind, but then…
Like so many things, it became his obsession.
The collection grew and grew, taking over his space and his brain. It went from hobby to fixation incredibly fast. When his mother tried to step in, he was filled with hate and anger.
How dare she try to stop him?
Even at a young age, the rage filled him when someone tried to touch his possessions. So, as time went on, his mother turned a blind eye. She ignored his obsessive tendencies and let him have it his way. The day that he exploded in rage, she backed down and would never contest his collecting again. Even she feared what may happen if he were provoked.
This hobby opened so many doors for him.
After rocks, it was leaves and then figurines.
There was nothing wrong with that, right?
Before long, as time slowly ticked by and childhood ebbed into adulthood, the needs changed and grew. The objects he longed to collect no longer were little things. As their size grew, their value to him also became greater.
Until that one day, when he stumbled upon the ultimate collection.
Beautiful women.
As he went off to college, a whole new world opened around him. Since he had been home schooled his entire life, he never really understood the importance of the opposite sex. Granted, he spent his days with a woman; his mother. What was so special about her? If anything, she was mediocre at best.
He didn't get it until that day when he was surrounded by them. It was as if something unlocked inside him, and he finally knew the truth.
There were blondes, brunette, and redheads. They smiled and smelled like heaven. Some had curly mops and some had hair that was poker straight.
This was a brand new world.
He was a kid in a very sexy candy shop. Every time that he blinked, a new woman appeared before him. All he needed to do was find the one who called to him.
So, like any good collector, he started at the beginning and prepped with photographs. Taking a few snapshots was easier than talking to them, so pictures would come first, and then he would see where it led.
Maybe in time, he could approach them and make them his.
A good gatherer didn't put a limit on a newly sought after prize.
He let the spirit move him.
Well, now, he was feeling it like never before. As he would sit in his classes, he would watch them all. The brunette liked the one jock. She would bat her eyelashes at him and hike her skirt up pretty high. The blonde was the smart one. She didn't even care about what was going on around her. All that she focused on was the man at the front of the classroom and her notebook. Then there was the redhead. She snapped her gum and looked infinitely bored, as she continued to glance at her watch. Each were very different, and yet so much alike.
Yeah, they were all oblivious to him watching. Part of him wished that they knew the truth of what was floating around in his brain. If they could see the intent on his face as he admired their different colored hair and body types, maybe then, they wouldn’t look so lackadaisical. To him, they were special.
Once class was over, he would follow the one that he liked best. When she never noticed that he was behind her, it gave him more hope that he would finally get her picture for his collection.
When she went to the commons and found a place to lie in the green grass, he did the same. Only, he stayed far enough away to openly admire her.
Oh, and did he ever!
There were shots of her licking her lips, flipping her hair, and falling asleep on her back in the sun.
This was heaven.
Already, his body was stirring, and he was feeling things that he never knew possible. Who would have thought that this beautiful collection was out there, wandering the world so freely?
Why had he not decided on this hobby long ago?
As his eyes flickered around the commons, he saw the truth. Beauty was everywhere, and now he could focus on it.
There was no one to stop him.
He stayed until she did, blowing off his last class of the day, only to watch her head home. He was so enraptured, that he didn't want to miss a second of observing her. If he did, surely something miraculous and wondrous would happen.
Fortunately for him, her apartment wasn’t far from campus and along the tree lined street. If she turned around, he could dive for cover and not be seen. If caught, it would ruin it all.
In his mind, he already had it all planned out. Not only would he take pictures, but he would study his subjects and find the best of the best.
This woman had piqued his interest and would hold a special place in his heart.
He was sure of it.
As he followed, his excitement grew. His body tightened and his response confused him. In his life, he had never wanted anything more. While his other collections brought him joy, this one made him feel. It filled him and made him so very warm with bliss. It astounded him that his own mother had failed to mention the effect of the opposite sex.
This was an endorphin rush.
It was amazing.
It was… addictive.
Deep in his mind, he knew that he was on the right track to find his next collection. With this response, it had to be right.
There was an inkling of warning, but it was pushed back down into his conscience for the momentary high. For now, that was all that mattered.
Once at her apartment, he noticed that she lived on the bottom floor. This would make it easy. Finding a place to hide in the trees, he waited until she made her next move. This was new to him, so he wasn’t quite sure what to do next.
So, he waited.
Once darkness had come, he was in his glory as he moved even closer to his new subject and prize.
He watched.
Moving as close to her window as he dared, he began taking pictures of her for his books. This subject would have one all of her own. Where usually his collections shared a scrapbook, this beauty would get the royal treatment. He was giddy at the prospect of constructing it. There were pictures of her partially clothed and just about ready to enter the shower.
Yes, she was the one.
Now, he knew for sure.
As he took the final shot with his camera, he stared longingly at the beauty. For the time being, she would be his muse. He was certain that it would lead to many more in the collection.
How could he stop at only one?
Backing away from the window, he made his escape into the night.
His new obsession had begun.
It was going to last his entire life.
Racing back to his apartment, he was overjoyed and exuberant. The energy vibrated through him. Never in his life had he felt this alive and happy.
Something about this woman and the prospect of the hunt, made him feel like he was living the dream. As someone who appreciated the beautiful things in life, he knew deep down that she was his pinnacle.
This was it.
Here was the culmination of everything that he had grown up loving and adoring.
Gone were the trinkets.
Now was the time for his works of art.
As he lay on his bed, his thoughts were focused on one thing. He knew that he needed a strategic plan of action. There needed to be a guideline to tell him where he should begin and how far he could take it.
Were pictures first?
Would they be enough?
He shook his head, as if to fight off the dark ideas bouncing around in his brain. He wanted so much more, but he knew that wasn’t possible.
Yes, pictures would be enough.
After all, he was an artist and nothing more. Then, he allowed the darkness a tiny segue into his mind. He was not only a man who appreciated beauty.
He was more...
He was the collector and was destined to have her.

Schasm by Shari J. Ryan

Chloe Valcourt drifts between two worlds: the dark reality of her domineering mother and feeble father and the vivid fantasy of her imagination. With her condition comes the harsh observation of doctors who intend to cure her of it. But a chance encounter with a handsome and vaguely familiar young man in her dream world hints at the possibility of hidden truths—and a life she can’t remember. As her drifts become a greater escape from the cruelty of the real world, Chloe finds herself lost between what is real and what is imagined, questioning her very existence. Can she remain in the lush new imagined landscape to find happiness in a realm of her own invention? Is she doomed to return to the harsh reality of the outside world forever? Or will she become trapped somewhere between the two…unable to return to either?

My Review

It seems like it’s been a while since I read a book that I enjoyed this much. I was hooked on this story from the beginning. The author made me feel, really feel what Chloe has gone through. Poor Chloe. There is so much pain in her life. Her unique situation is one that she should enjoy, but she’s been made to feel like a burden. Her mother makes her feel like she has a terrible condition or disability that must be kept hidden and treated with disgust. But her drifting is the only happiness she finds in her dismal existence. She meets the amazingly gorgeous Alex on a drift and soon her world gets turned upside down as she learns of hidden truths, secrets and unforgivable things done to her as a child.
This book was a really good one! There were parts of it where I was wondering what was real and what was just in her imagination. The author is good at keeping you guessing! At the very end it seems as though it will all work out and then BAM giant cliffhanger! I loved getting lost in Chloe’s world with her and I eagerly await the next book in this series.
I give this one 4.75 stars.

How did you come up with the idea of writing a book?
I needed a hobby that didn’t revolve around my children. I was in desperate need for an outlet. I’ve always been a writer, and I had promised myself I would write a book someday. It could be my great mental escape. Whether I had it in me or not, I wasn’t sure. But I started writing, and haven’t stopped since.

Where did your inspiration come from?
I decided to write a book, but I didn’t have an idea for a story just yet. I stared aimlessly out the window at three feet of snow, thick grey clouds, and flickering streetlights. It was a depressing New England winter day, and my mind wandered into a warmer place, like San Diego. I imagined the heat of the sun and the feeling of sand between my toes, but a cold draft stung my skin and snapped me out of my daze. I wished I had the ability to live in a daydream for a few minutes, just so I could enjoy the warm sun. I began to wonder if people had that capability, and that’s when the story began to flood my mind.

Does writing take time away from your family?
My family has and always will come first to me, but the second the kids are sleeping; my fictional world comes to life. My husband has been exceptionally understanding of the time spent on my book, and he’s been the most supportive person during this journey.

Have you learned anything about yourself since you started writing Schasm?
I’ve learned that my wondering mind can land in some pretty crazy places. I’ve also learned that my lifelong passion for art has folded nicely into my love for writing. I’ve always been one to notice tiny details in art, and I learned to take those details and put them into words.

What advice would you give someone who might be thinking of writing a book?
The first book is the hardest. It might take a year, two years, or even three years to write it. Whatever you do though, don’t give up. The feeling you’ll get after you write the last word makes every second of the hard work worth it.

Who are your favorite authors?
Colleen Hoover, Jamie McGuire, Katy Evans, and Amy Harmon are my current favorites. They are all inspirational in different ways. I especially love how they all connect with their readers.

Have you written any other books besides Schasm?
Schasm is my debut novel, but I’ve written the second and third book of the Schasm series as well. I have plans for my fourth book, which will be separate from the Schasm series.

What’s so special about your main character?
Chloe has an ability to take daydreaming to an extreme. Due to a condition that some might consider a disability, she learns that her capabilities are the key to her happiness. After living a sheltered life, she learns to live and grow on her own, but it’s only with the confines of her own mind.

Are you working on a book right now?
I’m editing the third book of the Schasm series. While I can’t give too many details away, I promise that it will tie up all remaining loose ends.

What genre are your books?
Young Adult Romance with a dark psychological twist

When did you decide to become a writer?
I promised myself at seven years old that I would someday write a book. I’m glad I fulfilled that promise to myself.

Do you write full-time or part-time?
I’m a full-time mom and a full-time writer. I wish there were more hours in the day.

What is the hardest thing about writing?
Trying not to contradict one scene with another.

What is the easiest thing about writing?
Letting my creative juices flow.

How long did it take you to write Schasm?
Schasm took me just over a year, but my second book only took me four months.

Do you ever get writer’s Block?
I get writer’s block a lot. I’ve found that walking away, taking a shower, or listening to music seems to help clear up my mind a bit.

Do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books?
I prefer ebooks so I can read in the dark.

Do you have a trailer for Schasm?

Shari J. Ryan has always dreamt of becoming an author and finally decided it was time to pursue her lifelong aspiration by writing a young adult trilogy, The Schasm Series. She has long nurtured a passion for art, reading, and writing, and those hobbies have become a mental escape from her busy life. In the past couple of years, she has put her heart and soul into the creation of her novels, which has taught her that it is never too late and nothing is too hard. The author graduated with a bachelors of science degree from Johnson & Wales University and has written hundreds of articles for various online publications. Pride Before the Fall Cover Reveal

Release date: February 1, 2014

Tormented feline shape shifter Vivian Blake is every bit the alpha female—both on stage and on four legs. She commands the audience as confidently as she leads her fugitive family. On the run from a sadistic alpha that nearly died under her claws, Vivian does whatever it takes to keep her Pride safe and provide for them, even if that includes some less than legal activities.
When Vivian moves her family into wolf territory, her extracurricular habits raise more than just the eyebrows of the local wolf and bear mixed Pack. Kasey Blackburn, their powerful leader, is none too happy about a group of renegade cats moving in and turning tricks in his city. But one look at Vivian and his intentions change. She’s the sexy, powerful female he craves. Too bad she’s a feline with a death sentence hanging over her head. Not to mention the fact that several members of the Pack don’t care for their Alpha dating a stripper.
When Vivian comes into heat, the tigress within wars with her human side. The cat wants a mate but the woman wants escape. Can Vivian resist the promise of a fresh start with Kasey or will her pride cost her everything?

“He’s different than the others,” Vivian said to her family as they drove back to the ratty apartments they’d rented.

Kasey Blackburn had been much more than Vivian expected. The power most alphas possessed was faint in comparison to the wolf she’d just met. His potency was like another physical being in the room. On several occasions the energy of it washed over her body as a caress. He was the first alpha they’d been required to meet with face-to-face. The others had been fine with a phone call. He was also the only alpha to have such upscale offices in the heart of a city. It was obvious he was a businessman and his Pack was doing well due in no small part to that fact.

More than anything, she’d noticed how breathtaking he was. He was suave and sexy in a way that set him far above any other man she’d ever met. Even with gray-kissed black hair and crow’s feet forming around his eyes, he was still in his prime for a shifter. His rich blue-gray eyes had connected with hers as soon as she’d walked into his office and she’d seen the wolf looking back at her.

Blackburn’s reputation preceded him. Vivian hadn’t wanted to go into his jurisdiction until she absolutely had to. Unfortunately, it was now necessary. Kasey’s Pack wouldn’t offer them protection and she knew that. But any shifter who entered his territory had to be accounted for and maybe, just maybe, if Trace’s men followed them here, Vivian would be alerted.

“It’s because he’s a dog,” Conall joked from the driver’s seat. Their Pride had stuck to feline lands as much as possible.

“Naw,” Amilynn shook her head. “V’s right. This guy has his shit together. Even I didn’t ruffle his feathers.”

“And you were really trying today,” Melissa giggled.

“I hate it when you do that,” Ty mumbled at his sister.

Ami rolled her eyes. “Do what?”

“Play the psycho-slut card. It’s unnecessary.”

“Whatever. He didn’t buy it so what does it matter?” Ami propped her army boots up on the dash of the dilapidated old suburban.

“He’s smart.” Vivian stared out the window and leaned her head back.

Melissa leaned closer into Ty’s arms and regarded her big sister. “What’s on your mind, V?”

Vivian smiled at her and shook her head. “Nothing, sweetheart. I’m just tired of all this relocating every other year.”

Melissa nodded her head. She knew all too well the burden her older sister carried as the alpha of their band of misfits. It wasn’t easy to have the responsibility of everyone’s safety and happiness on your shoulders.

Vivian thought about the man who had so generously allowed them to stay and run in his realm. Kasey was the kind of man she’d never dream of landing, but secretly wished she could. In their Pride in Nevada, she’d been one of the few overly dominant females. Sure, there were women who could keep up with the men, but few who could overpower them. She’d been pegged early on and her parents did their damnedest to “socialize and feminize” her. Piano and dance lessons, pearls and lace, manners and etiquette or she was punished. Vivian had been scared to be herself until she was nearly sixteen.

That was when her parents and teachers had realized she was not going to be tamed. Vivian had been pulled from the human school system and put in a special private school run on Pride lands. It was a program specifically for Pride soldiers and dominant females. The girls were trained in combat and taught to use their sexuality like a weapon. Vivian had excelled in hand-to-hand fighting and close proximity assassinations. By the time she was eighteen, Vivian could kill a man with her bare hands in fifteen different ways while blindfolded and wearing high heels. She was at the top of her class and Trace, the Pride alpha, took notice. It had been his biggest mistake.

This book is book one in a three part series, so not all matters are resolved at the end of the novel. It is also meant for ages 18+ due to yummy adult content ;)

Happily ever after doesn’t exist. Not just in the romantic sense, but in the sense that there will never be a point in life that will contain no more obstacles.

Josie Sommers is a nerdy twenty four year old, elementary school teacher who has always considered herself a strong person. But with the loss of a loved one and the return of someone she vowed to never see again, her strength starts to break.

When he betrayed her in the ultimate way, she never thought she would let him back into her life, let alone open herself up to falling back in love with him.
Plagued with resentment and the burden of her own dishonesty,

Josie has to decide if forgiving and coming clean is worth the risk of losing him again. With so many hurdles, we know that Josie’s story is no fairytale.

That’s a promise.
My Review:

Josie loves Seth. He’s her best friend. He’s tall and covered in tattoos and just delicious. He’s been there for her since they were kids and he’s the best friend a girl could have. But she thinks he doesn’t love her back so she moves on. Enter Blake into the story. He’s gorgeous and everything Josie thought she ever wanted. Josie falls madly in love with Blake and they are happy till both of their pasts come out in the open.

I told Victoria that this book should come with a warning label. Warning: the story may cause whiplash. Josie can’t seem to make up her mind. She loves Seth. She loves Blake, no wait, she loves Seth again. But wait, Blake is *it for her. Ugh Come on Josie. Pick a hottie and be happy already. lol Seriously, I loved this book! The drama, the sadness,  the love and of course, the sex.  I don’t typically delve into too many contemporary romance books, but this one is a good one to get hooked on. I totally fell for Josie and I definitely wouldn’t kick Seth out of bed. ;)

I recommend this to anyone who loves a good romance, love triangles and big ol’ cliffhangers! I give it 4.5 stars. I’d give it 5, but the jumping back and forth between the past and present kind of confused me at times. I read several chapters at one point and I kind of had no idea when it was. lol Other than that it was a fantastic read! Great story Victoria Klahr! I can’t wait for the next book!

“You are gorgeous, as always, Josie.” He turned me around and brought his lips to mine. He kissed me slowly, and I could feel myself getting heated. He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the bed. I was a little embarrassed when he started undressing us, unable to believe that I agreed to do something so risqué. He position me in a particular way, and went back to his cameras to make sure his shot was right and to set up timers on them.

“Okay, don’t think about the cameras,” he said, coming back to me. He started sucking on my neck as his hands roamed my thighs, stomach, and then my chest. I tried to ignore the cameras and focused on his tongue and mouth on me.

Click. He brought one of my breasts into his mouth and sucked on my hard nipple. His tongue always knew how to make my body feel good. Click. I moved my hands into his shaggy sandy blonde hair, and arched my back, needing more of him. Click. Seth aligned his chest with mine, and went back to assault my neck as I moved my hands to rub his shoulders and arms.  Click. His other hand that wasn’t fondling my breast, moved its way in between my legs, and rubbed me. I gasped at the feeling of increased pressure on my clit. Click. His fingers really were magical. It didn’t take me long before both the pressure of his mouth on my neck and breasts and the rubbing of his fingers against me, made me come. Click.

“So sexy,” he whispered, before putting on the condom he had ready on the bed.

His eyes were hooded with desire. He positioned himself in front of me and moved my long hair in a way that covered my breasts. Click. He eased inside of me gently, and then pulled back out fast. Click. He teased me like that for a while, as I whimpered with need. I decided to sit up and grab onto his back, nearly clawing him to finally give me what I needed. I started to raise my hips to his at a better rhythm, loving the small whimper that came out of his mouth. Click.
