Hot Redemption by K.D. Penn

Title: Hot Redemption
Author: K.D. Penn (pseudonym for Kenya Wright and D.T. Dyllin)
Genre: Cyberpunk Erotic Romance
Publisher: Dragonfairy Press
Expected publication: July 2013

Blurb:
Epic and his brothers don’t rob strip clubs for fun or fame, but to use the electric currency to take care of their family. With androids and robots flooding the job market, it’s almost impossible for humans to find work. Besides, stealing comes easy to the gang, until Phoenix steps into their lives, snatching away their bounty and fogging up Epic’s mind with her seductive scent.

Shots blare. A chase ensues. Both sides refuse to yield. And the small compromise that comes is brought by chains and a promise for a bigger hit—on a planet far away from earth.

Can Epic and Phoenix work together to rescue themselves from poverty?

Or will they find another type of redemption, one lathered in lust and warmth, pleasure, and the type of undemanding love that no human can live without?

My Review

Nixie had been burned. Literally, by an abusive ex. She was weary of men and not looking for any kind of romantic relationship. She worked as a stripper, and she used wealthy men for their money, but only till she could pull off a heist to put her into retirement. Then in walks Epic and he changed her whole game. Not only did he steal back what she stole from him, but the longer she was around him, he was getting to her. And she found herself wanting him as much as he wanted her. Could she put her past behind her and trust this kind hearted thief? Could they have a real future?

I'll admit that this story didn't really catch my attention from the beginning. It's set in the future and I kind of had a hard time picturing it and understand what was going on at first. Some of the wording is different, but once I understood what it all stood for, I started to enjoy the story of Epic and Nix. And was it ever a hot story! At first they resisted and tried to make it a work only arrangement, but as they fell for  each other it was easy to look past their lawless ways and see the sweet love story lurking underneath. By the end their love scenes had me panting for more. I really enjoyed it. It was a fast paced thrill ride! I'd give it 4 stars since it didn't hook me from the beginning, but I am glad I gave it a chance and kept on. Very enjoyable read!

About the Authors
K.D. Penn is a pseudonym for the writing team of Kenya Wright and D.T. Dyllin. Or to make it simpler for you…

Kenya Wright always knew she would be famous since the ripe old age of six when she sang the Michael Jackson thriller song in her bathroom mirror. She has tried her hand at many things from enlisting in the Navy for six years as a Persian-Farsi linguist to being a nude model at an art university.

However, writing has been the only constant love in her life. Will she succeed? Of course.

For she has been coined The Urban Fantasy Queen, the Super Iconic Writer of this Age, The Lyrical Genius of Our Generation. Granted, these are all terms coined by her, within the private walls of her bathroom as she still sings the Michael Jackson thriller song.

Kenya Wright currently resides in Miami with her three amazing, overactive children, a
supportive, gorgeous husband, and three cool black cats that refuse to stop sleeping on Kenya’s head at night.

Through Glass Release Day Blitz!

Don't Eat The Food
ThroughGlass-BN-Kobo
Title: Through Glass
Author: Rebecca Ethington
Genre: NA Dystopian
Everyone remembered the day the sky went black. The day the sun was wiped from the sky. They remember the wind as it brought in the darkness; the way the earth shook and everything changed.
Everyone remembered the screams as the darkness ate those who were out in the open, those who had surrounded themselves by light, and those who made noise. Everyone remembered the voice from the sky and the way food disappeared. At least, that’s what I hoped. I hoped that there was an ‘everyone’ that would remember because I am not sure how many are left, how many survived. Or if anyone did. I hoped that I wasn’t alone. I remembered that day. I remembered because it was the day I became alone. It was the day that everything was perfect until the monsters took it away. Then the house went silent and the birds stopped singing. It was the day when everyone disappeared, everyone except the boy, the only person I have seen in two years. The boy I talk to through the glass.
Teaser
I looked up as the screech of the Ulama ended, as the monster fell to the ground of my room, the dark blood of the two dead creatures spilling over my once white carpet. I stared at the monsters as I panted and my heart beat a frantic pulse against my skin. I stared as my pulse slowed until I could pull my eyes away from the thing that tainted my room to look into the eyes I had dreamed about every night for as long as I could remember. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t make my tongue work. I just looked at him, knowing that tears were sliding down my cheeks; knowing and not caring. I wasn’t sure why I was crying, I wasn’t sure if it was because of the panic that still surged through my body or the joy that I felt at seeing him there. “Alexis,” he said, his voice as deep and rumbling as I remembered it. It shot through me and for the first time in years I felt alive. It was him. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t trust my mouth enough to form coherent words. I just moved. I moved as he moved, our hands meeting for the first time in two years as we hovered over the body of the monsters that had attempted to kill me. I grasped his skin, my heart beating so fast I was sure I couldn’t take it. A shaking breath moved out of me, his own breath moving across my skin. He moved closer as his frantic breaths rolled over me—the heat of his breath, of his touch—igniting a fire across the surface of my skin. His fingers trailed their way up my arms, over my face, across my neck… I had forgotten how good this felt. I had forgotten what touch was like; what it did to my body. Everything felt like it was on fire. I smiled through the tears as he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me toward him. I let him, letting my own arms wrap around him in my desperate attempt to get closer to him, to feel more of him. I felt his lips graze against my skin, the touch dry and foreign, but incredibly welcomed. I turned into it, my fingers digging into his tattered shirt and into his shaggy unkempt hair as the scruff on his chin moved against my face. I gasped at the prickly sensation that cut into me, the gasp deepening into a groan as his lips made contact with mine. The feeling of ecstasy I was now feeling grew into something I couldn’t ignore. I clung to him, I pressed into him. I felt every part of him as he did the same to me. No words had passed between us since he had said my name, but we didn’t need them. I could feel his happiness in the way he clung to me, sensed his relief in the way he breathed and his joy in the taste of his lips. I felt it all and I knew he felt it all from me. He pulled away from me slowly; his hands unwilling to leave my body as he moved back to look at me. His cheeks were stained with tears as he moved my hair out of my face and stared into my eyes. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that,” he said again, the same words from all those years ago sounding even more beautiful. “Two years, one month, thirteen days and a few hours?” He smiled as I spoke, his fingers running over the skin of my face like he would never let me go. “And a few minutes,” he gasped, the sounds of ecstasy heavy in his deep voice. He smiled and I couldn’t help it, I laughed. I laughed loud and deep and let the sound carry around us. Cohen smiled as his laugh filtered through mine like a silver ribbon. The happy sounds surrounded us and, for that moment, I was happy. I was free. I couldn’t feel the pulse of fear that still beat through me. I didn’t see the monsters that lay lifeless in my room. It was Cohen and me, and everything was perfect. Until the sound that would ring in our death rent through the air. The screech of the Ulama broke through the sound of our laughter and destroyed the perfect peace we had created. The sound left as quickly as it had come, the warning received. We didn’t have much time. They were coming.

Fashionably Dead by Robyn Peterman ~Review & Interview!

Vampyres don’t exist. They absolutely do not exist.

At least I didn’t think they did ‘til I tried to quit smoking and ended up Undead. Who in the hell did I screw over in a former life that my getting healthy equates with dead?

Now I’m a Vampyre. Yes, we exist whether we want to or not. However, I have to admit, the perks aren’t bad. My girls no longer jiggle, my ass is higher than a kite and the latest Prada keeps finding its way to my wardrobe. On the downside, I’m stuck with an obscenely profane Guardian Angel who looks like Oprah and a Fairy Fighting Coach who’s teaching me to annihilate like the Terminator.

To complicate matters, my libido has increased to Vampyric proportions and my attraction to a hotter than Satan’s underpants killer rogue Vampyre is not only dangerous . . . it’s possibly deadly. For real dead. Permanent death isn’t on my agenda. Avoiding him is my only option. Of course, since he thinks I’m his, it’s easier said than done. Like THAT’S not enough to deal with, all the other Vampyres think I’m some sort of Chosen One.

Holy Hell, if I’m in charge of saving an entire race of blood suckers, the Undead are in for one hell of a ride.

*****
“Uproariously witty, deliciously provocative, and just plain fun! No one delivers side-splitting humor and mouth-watering sensuality like Robyn Peterman. This is entertainment at its absolute finest!” ~ Darynda Jones, NY Times Bestselling Author of the Charley Davidson Series

You can buy Fashionably Dead HERE!

My Review

Astrid had a normal life and she liked it. She had a best friend and a decent job teaching art to senoirs. Her mother is hellish, but she is used to it. The only thing she wants to do is quit smoking without gaining weight and own lots of Prada. She decides that going to a strip mall hypnotist to quit smoking is a good idea and that's when things started getting complicated.

You've heard the term waking up dead? Well Astrid really did. when she woke from her hypnotherapy session, she was dead, well, undead to be exact. She had been turned into a vampyre and was now part of the glamorous but dangerous world of vampyres. She trained with the help of her guardian angel and fairy friend to become a great fighter because rumor had it she was the chosen one. Well how's that for pressure? Now she has to figure out how to save the vampyre king and deal with the prince who sort of half married her without her consent. Can she survive this crazy vampyre lifestyle? She's doubtful, but all the Prada they lavish on her certainly helps!

This book was very funny and entertaining. The characters will keep you laughing and the sticky situations will keep you on your toes. Honestly there were parts that made my head spin because so many revelations came to light all at the same time, but that only slightly detracted from the amazing story. This is definitely one of my favorite vampire worlds. They just wanted to live - um, exist, peacefully and they were not out for blood. They actually hunted down rogue vamps that killed humans for sport. Theirs was a glamorous world I wouldn't mind waking up in.

Especially if I could catch the attention of the gorgeous prince the way Astrid did.

I enjoyed reading this book and flew through it quickly! I'd give it 5 stars and would definitely recommend it to the vampire lovers out there!!

The woman is hilarious! Check this out!

Hi Robyn! I'm so excited that you agreed to do an interview for my blog! I tried to be creative with my questions and I hope you had fun with them.

Thanks!! ~Mindy

So..... porno writing grannies?

**Yes. I figured porno writing grannies sounded better than porno writing grandpas or porno writing soccer moms. Although the soccer mom thing could work......

Tell us something about Pirate Dave that no one knows.

**Pirate Dave can’t swim. BUT, because he is a time traveling vampire warlock this does not present too many problems.

Is Pirate Dave single? Can I get his number?

**He’s in an open relationship with the conjoined twins, Laverne and Shirley. He’s such a randy bastard that I am sure he would give you his number.

In what fictional world would you live?

**Wait...are you saying I don’t live in one now?

Who is your book boyfriend? And your book BFF?

**My book boyfriend is Ethan from FASHIONABLY DEAD. I’ve got a thing for the undead. Their staying power is supposed to be tremendous. My book BFF is Rena from HOW HARD CAN IT BE? She is my kind of crazy!!!

If you found a magic lamp with a genie that gave you 3 wishes, what would they be?

**1. A self cleaning house. 2. No need to sleep ever again. 3. A self cleaning house.

How many different names for genitalia have you come up with? Can you tell us some of your favorites?

** I have come up with 468,922 and a half terms for genitalia. My favorite (by far) is Porksword. It’s a lovely word, very descriptive and can stop polite conversation dead in it’s tracks.

And now a few of the run of the mill boring questions:

Who is your favorite author? Why?

**I adore a ton of authors. Some of my paranormal fav’s are Darynda Jones, Jeannine Frost, Thea Harrison and JR Ward. They are brilliant writers and I’m addicted!

Why did you become a writer?

**Because there are so many people running around in my head that I had no choice. It was either write or be institutionalized.

What are you working on next? Any chance we could get a little peek?

**I just had a book come out called Fashionably Dead. It’s a snarky, sexy, funny paranormal. And my next contemporary called Size Matters (also snarky, funny and sexy) comes out December 19th.

Here are the links to those books!!

Fashionably Dead (book 1 of the Hot Damned Series)

Size Matters (book 2 in the Handcuffs and Happily Ever After series)

State of Decay by Peggy Martinez Pt 1 & 2 Review

Blurb:

Despite what you’ve been told, the Apocalypse doesn’t begin with fire raining down from the heavens, nor does it begin with the human race falling down on their faces in supplication before a triumphant god. No, the sounds of the Apocalypse are much more terrifying than that, and I should know … I’ve heard them, and hearing the world tumble into chaos around me is not something I’ll ever forget.
My name is Melody Carter.
A Boeing 767 fell from the sky and wiped out most of my neighborhood.
But, that's the least of my worries.
My list of "Things I'm Most Worried About" shifted dramatically when my dad told me that charred corpses tried to make a meal out of their rescuers ... I'm thinking yours would too.
This is the beginning of my story.
It's not for the faint of heart.

*** This is PART ONE in the ongoing zombie apocalypse novella series, State of Decay. A new story will be released every 3-4 weeks, until Melody's story has been told. This novella is approximately 20,000 words. (About 80+/- pages long) ***
****** Warning: This book is for mature/NA/Adult Readers. This novella contains: tons of violence, lots of action, gobs of gore, and oodles of bad language. Enter at your own risk. ******

My Review

Part 1: I have been on a zombie book binge. I can't get enough. I have read a few that were so so and a couple that were amazing and this one was amazing!

I admit I love it when the heroine can kick ass. When she doesn't rely on a man to save her and can out think, and outwit everyone else. That said, I LOVE Melody!! She is definitely an ass kicker and she's not the type of girl to trip over a tree root and get eaten. She's the blow up buildings, live in the woods alone, take down a zombie with her bare hands, survivalist, bad ass chick that I want my daughters to be.

Melody was taught to survive from her military father and she's no slouch when it comes to thinking on her feet. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty and stab a walking corpse right through the eye with her 12 inch double edge recon blade. I cheered her on from the beginning. She had a gut instinct that something bad was going down, and she prepared to run. When her father was bitten she didn't hesitate to do what she had to do. Some might say she's too hardened, but for the world she lives in, she's got exactly what it takes to survive.

I devoured this novella and am eagerly waiting for the next part of Melody's story. 5 stars!! Great job Peggy!

Part 2:  In the Second part of this zombie story, Melody finds herself in an underground military safe camp. She has a bed and hot food for the first time in years. She also has other living people to talk to. She finds herself volunteering to go back out into the gruesome new world to find out what happened to their rendezvous. She and a team led by the sexy NN set off to find out if they can find their guy and learn anything new about the zombie virus.

Melody is still kicking ass and taking names in part 2! I have such a girl crush on her character. She's brave, smart, resourceful and funny! She's a fighter and survivor. This second part was just as good as the first. In this part we learn how the virus came to be and Peggy's imagination thought up a scenario that chilled me to the bone. You'll have to read to find out how it all started, but believe me, you'll want to sleep with a knife under your mattress after you do (which I totally do now). Gruesome and terrifying, this story will keep you up at night. If you love to be scared out of your mind, you'll love these stories! 5 stars for State of Decay part 2!

******

Today I have Peggy Martinez visiting us and talking about why she likes to write about zombies, movies and more of her work.
Welcome Peggy!

What made you want to write about zombies?
I love reading about zombies and I am a HUGE fan of post apocalyptic/dystopian books. I really wanted to see if I could pull off a novella series combining some of my favorite elements.

What is your favorite scary movie?
eeep! Confession time ... I don't *love* scary movies unless there is a HUGE element of suspense & mind bending twists and turns. If the movie is full of gore, but no substance ... I steer clear. ;)
That being said, some of my favorites would have to be- The Omen, Carrie, & Halloween.

What is your favorite genre to read? Favorite author?
Paranormal & Dystopian ... though I have a soft spot for historical romances & Charlotte Bronte.
Karen Marie Moning is one of my ultimate favorite authors ... along with Faith Hunter, Mary Balogh, Maria V. Snyder ... and many many more.

For those not familiar with your work, is this your first book? Are you working on anything else?
No, State of Decay is my first horror, but I've written several other things and have several books/novellas in the works. My first book was Contingency, a YA/NA paranormal romance with time travel. I also wrote Sweet Contradiction, which is a NA Sweet Contemporary Romance.
As far as what I am currently working on ... I am writing book #3 to the time warper series, part two to State of Decay (which will come out at the end of this month), and several other projects. I am also writing erotica under my pen name, E. L. Lea. (The first book will be out at the end of the month- Her Liberation)
What band or artist would play the background music for this story?
I think I'd go with Flyleaf ;) Here is my playlist for State of Decay so far. -
State of Decay

Excerpt:

They took a swig from their water pouches and were about to set off except that a glow from another shaft next to the one they had emerged from alerted Jules.

Shh!” he motioned for the others to stay behind him. Gophers didn’t carry lamps.

After some seconds the glow brightened. Jules glanced from one tunnel opening to another. Which one should they rush into to escape from whatever was heading their way? A part of him was curious to see who could be traveling in these parts with lamps. But if he stayed behind and it was an enemy, would he endanger his siblings? He shoved Tippy behind him and determined the direction to take. Hopefully toward the river. Hurry!
Jules!” a whisper echoed in the chamber.

Jules swiveled toward the speaker.

It was a gopher, all right! With his back to the tunnel he’d edged out from, Holden stood, a crude jar lantern in hand and with a stunned face. Even in the dim light it was obvious Holden had bruises and cuts on his arms and face.

Who pummeled you?” Jules rushed toward his neighbor, eyes wide.

We must get away.” Holden was still panting. His green cloak was in shreds.

What happened? Did you see my mom?”

Your mom?” Holden shook his head, eyes dazed. “But my mom….” He hung his head and slumped to the ground.

Hotter Than Hot by Milly Silver

Hotter Than Hot by Milly Silver
~Blurb~

Maggie Lee is Space Cadet 69. She begged for a different number. But no can do. She's stuck with a 69 on her forehead, until she's vaporized. That pretty much sums up Maggie's life.
Stuck in a boring job counting tins of meatballs.
Stuck on the dullest space station in the universe, Lanzarote.
And stuck with no hope of achieving her dream of flying scout ships.
Enter hot guy Hunter in his blinged-up spaceship. Things start to get unstuck for Maggie real fast.

Maggie needs to outwit evil Lord Zagon who wants to kill her for her cherished precognition helmet, find a rare space rock to save her family from suspended animation and flee from giddy space pirates wanting to pimp out her friends to the nearest aliens. Hunter being a sexy space god isn't exactly helping Maggie's concentration levels either.
Can Maggie pull it off? If she doesn't, her family will be frozen forever and Lord Zagon will rule the universe. Then she'll definitely never get to fly scout ships.
*HOTTER THAN HOT is a NA romantic comedy. It's a light, fast read that will keep you laughing all the way through. The perfect beach read!

~My Review~

The story really does start with a runty dog, a hot guy and an explosion. Maggie was at her boring job of counting cans of meatballs on space station Lanzarote when Hunter showed up and turned her life upside down! Suddenly she and her friend Stacey are plunged into a completely un-boring situation. They have to save the universe, find the rare mineral Chelle, and Maggie has to try to do it all while keeping a clear head around the gorgeous Hunter. Can they manage to stay one step ahead of the evil Lord Zagon or will they end up as space dust?

Fans of Spaceballs the movie will enjoy this wild space romp! This book is hysterical! Maggie and Stacey have the best back and forth banter and even Elvis (the runty dog) will make you laugh. Hunter will make your girly parts quiver and Pirate Rob is dreamy. Put all that together in a blinged out space ship with an attitude and it's one hell of a combination! I definitely recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor or anyone looking for a quick, fun read. This book is a total escape from reality- in the best possible way. 5 stars from this sci-fi loving book-a-holic!
